These are two fabulous fabric sculptures that were at the Anthropologie store in Newport Beach. I took a picture of them while no one was looking because being the risk taker that I am, I wasn't afraid of getting caught and having to endure the fit they throw, when they see you photographing anything in their stores.

Paradise Point really is a Lot Like Paradise
A couple of weekends ago, I went to San Diego to help with my God son and his newborn brother while his parents went to a wedding. From the minute we got to the resort where we were staying, I started having feelings of deja vu. I finally discovered that Paradise Point was originally Vacation Village where I had been numerous times when my girls were younger and I was still married to their father.
It was/is a perfect place for families to vacation with the numerous swimming pools, playgrounds and many ponds for feeding the ducks. It is right on the bay, so there are no waves and all of the restaurants are children friendly.
It was a beautiful weekend with the typical fabulous weather that San Diego is know for. Mark had a great time swimming and luckily I was able to spend some quality time with the boys. I felt I had come full circle. It felt so good to see things through the eyes of child again. It makes everything so much more enjoyable.
Product Alert - You Rebel by Benefit
A friend of mine recently introduced me to this moisturizing cream and I seriously have to prevent myself from eating it, because I love it more than chocolate. Since I have moved to the beach I spend a lot more time outdoors and I hate going out with my bare face, not only because I want to avoid the sun, but I also don't want to scare anyone I may encounter.
This is the most incredible moisturizer, because, not only does it feel like butter when you apply it, it also has a slight tint, which evens out your complexion. So now in the mornings, before I go on my walk on the beach, I apply a small amount of You Rebel and it provides moisturizer, sunscreen and a slight color to my hideously pale face. In record time, I am ready to face the world. You can get it at Sephora, Macy's and also on-line. If you live in Santa Monica, there is a Benefit store on Montana, where you can sample every product they make. People literally go there on Saturday to get their make-up done for free, for a night out on the town. It's thirty dollars for a tube and it lasts quite a while. They also carry a lighter version if this is too dark for you. I am Nancy Smith and I approve this message.
Halloween on Balboa Island
I was lucky enough spend this weekend on Balboa Island and got to walk around and see all the charming little houses decorated for Halloween. It was a hot day, but it almost felt like fall with pumpkins everywhere. No leaves changing color, but the water did look a bit more orange than usual.
This is considered a prime spot for Trick-or-Treaters, with the houses being so close together and rich people giving out good candy and all.
Since Balboa is an island, and parking is almost non-existent, I guess your best bet would be to Trick or treat by boat.
The local pet shop had a Halloween costume contest for dogs and quite a few turned out. The winner was dressed as a USC cheerleader which was totally unfair because the ballerina was much cuter. Besides USC sucks.
The dogs didn't even seem to mind that they had to wear these dumb costumes on a very hot day. The embarrassment probably out- weighted the discomfort, anyway.
The prizes made it all worth while as they were baskets filled with the most appetizing, made for dogs only, treats. I really got in trouble taking this picture inside the store. I'm sure the owner thought I was going straight home to copy all her recipes so I could give them out to the neighborhood dogs on Halloween.

Outdoor Basketball
This past weekend I did something I have never done before and that is attend an outdoor pro basketball exhibition game. I've been to many Laker games in the past, but It's not like I'm an NBA fan or anything. For a weekend in Palm Springs, I'll pretend to be one. I went to see a game between the Phoenix Suns and the Denver Nuggets played at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden and you would have never guessed there was a tennis court hidden underneath the basketball court. I assume this was a big deal because I don't think they play basketball outdoors much in the NBA. The game was low scoring because of the wind and the players seemed to be off because of the moon shining in their eyes, but other than that, it was an interesting night. I guess this was a very big deal because it's the first time this has ever been done in this country (playing basketball outdoors) and you would have thought they were having Sarah Palin play in the game by the size of the crowd.
Thank goodness the people i was with had an indoor box where we could escape from the cold (and the game) to wine and dine on really good food. I am so out of touch with basketball, that I didn't even know that Shaquille O'Neal was playing for the Suns, although I did know that he left the Lakers a few years back. He is one big dude and makes all the other players look short.
The best part of the trip was spending the next day at the hotel pool, where the weather had heated up at least fifty degrees from the night before. It was a slam dunk weekend.
A Day at the Beach
I recently joined some friends for a picnic at one of the most beautiful beaches in Southern California, China Cove Beach in Corona del Mar. It is so incredibly beautiful that there are signs telling you that you are not allowed to take photographs without permission. In other words, if you are thinking of getting married here, forget about it.
The highlight of my day was finding so many pieces of sea glass. Now I know where to come after a storm.
Hot Pumpkins
The weather has been extremely hot lately, and the only way you can tell that Fall is approaching is by the displays at the grocery stores. I'm surprised the pumpkins haven't started to rot, after sitting out in the extreme heat all day. The bad news is that we don't have a fall in Southern California so there is no changing of the leaves, crisp air or frost on the pumpkins. The good news is that we also don't have a real winter to succeed it, thus eliminating snow, sleet, and ice storms from our vocabulary.
Kite Day at the Beach - BYOK
Sunday was a beautiful day at the beach. It was hot, windy and the waves were larger than usual. A perfect day to hold a bring your own kite party (BYOK). Have I told you how much I love living at the beach?
