To all you mothers out there who feel that life is one big carpool line, a marathon of breaking up fights, wiping runny noses and butts, I have good news for you - they grow up, leave the nest, and become your friend. You not only love them, you actually like them.
You almost forget the days of wanting to tie your own tubes because your child wouldn't eat, poop, or go to sleep before your head exploded. All of a sudden you are hanging out with your young adult children and their friends who you have grown to love over the years.
This was an incredible weekend for me, as my daughter and her friends were in Pasadena for the Notre Dame - UCLA game at the Rose Bowl. My oldest daughter's in-laws had a gigantic tailgate party at their house which is near the Rose Bowl and it was an all day and night affair.
The best part was that Notre Dame finally won their first football game, and USC lost to Stanford. Needless to say, there was much celebrating, and there were so many people there, I didn't even have time to talk to their stepmother. Darn it.
