January has to be the worst month of the year. I equate it to one big hangover, and not just because of drinking too much on New Year's Eve. Christmas is without a doubt, the happiest of times, when we cram all our indulgences into a two week period. Then comes January, and we go cold turkey into the abyss of dieting, detoxing, missing the camaraderie of family and friends, bills, spending remorse, not to mention trying to get your blood sugar level cut in half. Then there are the resolutions, where we admit that we are borderline losers, and realize we have one more chance to get it right. We usually break at least one of them by the third week, making us feel worse because now we have to wait another year to try again. Do we really need daylight savings time, because it sure would be nice to have a little extra sunlight about now?
I had a fabulous Christmas and as usual, I am hit hard with the post holiday blues. I especially miss my daughter who went back to Chicago, but since I have a new granddaughter to look forward to in a few weeks, things are looking up. She will be coming back to see the new baby along with my sister, and from what I hear there is nothing more rewarding than being a grandparent.
